Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) System

The CTA system employs radar, LIDAR and vision systems to detect approaching vehicles from the side. It utilizes microcontrollers for sensor fusion and communication protocols to warn the driver when reversing or exiting a parking space, enhancing safety in parking lots and intersections.

The CTA System is an essential driver assistance feature that enhances safety by helping drivers detect traffic crossing behind the car when it is reversing. The system utilizes radar sensors and cameras to detect vehicles and other objects crossing the vehicle’s path, providing real-time information to the driver about potential hazards.

The auto-brake sub-function can help the driver stop the car in the event of a risk of collision with an unobserved vehicle. The function is primarily designed to detect vehicles, and in favorable conditions, it may also be able to detect smaller objects, such as cyclists and pedestrians. The function is only active if the car rolls backward or if the reverse gear has been selected. If the function senses that something is approaching from the side, this can be indicated with an acoustic signal, an illuminated icon in the driver display’s Park Assist System graphic, or an icon on the Park Assist camera top view. If the driver does not observe the warning from the function and a collision is unavoidable, the auto-brake sub- function engages to stop the car, after which the driver display shows an explanatory text message on why the car was braked.

The CTA System is a critical component of modern vehicle safety systems, providing drivers with vital information and assistance to help prevent accidents and improve overall road safety. The system components of CTA include radar sensors, cameras, microprocessors and display units. These components work together to create a seamless and reliable CTA system, providing drivers with enhanced safety and convenience features.
